Evaluating Personality Traits and Behavioral Skills in Cashiers
This study investigates evaluations of specific personality characteristics and behavioral skills of cashiers. To do this, we would like you to role-play a supervisor who is evaluating applicants for a cashier position in your department. You will be asked to form impressions of hypothetical applicants and make hiring recommendations based upon your impressions. This should take 15-30 minutes of your time, and it will help us understand the decision-making processes of practicing supervisors. Your participation is voluntary and responses will be anonymous. Thank you in advance for your valuable time in contributing to this study.
Listed below are several "Candidate Profiles" listing the "scores" of hypothetical candidates on measures of four personality traitsand four behavioral skills. Please assume that these scores were the most important for describing each individual based on a standardized test. The scores range from "0" (indicating that this trait/skill is Not At All Descriptive) through "50" (Somewhat Descriptive) to "100" (Completely Descriptive). Please evaluate the pattern of traits and skills of the candidates by examining the scores each person received on the four traits and skills listed. Try to form a clear impression and make a hiring recommendation by clicking one box on the hiring scale below the candidate profile.
Your progress may be slow at first, but you should go much
faster after you have done a few. Many of the profiles may appear
similar, but each profile presents a unique pattern of scores.
Thus, please try to respond to each candidate individually
without looking back at previous profiles that you have
evaluated.
