Still More Dick and Jane in the 1960s
In an episode also from More Friends Old and New, the character Susan responds to an episode of a TV show that features animals from the zoo. Delighted when the host, Uncle Happy, is accosted by a rambunctious monkey, Susan vows to write him a letter. The episode reflects the hopes of some theorists in the 50s and 60s for television. That is, the episode portrays television not as a passive device that discourages reading, writing, and community, but rather, as an interactive medium that encourages the same.
