The objectives of freshman seminars at Valparaiso University include the following:

an in-depth examination of a topic, problem, or theme;

a small class size (generally, around 15 students);

a course that centers around challenging, stimulating, interesting, and well written texts;

a course that is writing-intensive; and

a course that makes the most of the seminar setting.
